We’ve read the post-apocalyptic stories. We’ve seen the futuristic movies of life generations from now. We read the news that is right at out fingertips.
And yet, we continue to ignore it. Or better yet, we like to imagine its happening somewhere else.
I read a historical fiction recently about a civil war in Chile that took place in the early 1900s.
The narrator was a girl named Alba who told the story of her parents and grandparents. Her grandfather was a senator and a member of the conservative party.
Naturally they were impacted by the war and everything they thought they knew seemed to crumble under their feet.
With the division this election brings, many people fear a civil war happening in our own country. So now it’s not a far off idea that you can put away by closing a book or shutting off your phone.
Now more than ever it is important to be kind to one another, to listen to one another.
Regardless of who they voted for or who they are, we can’t let something that trivial destroy us.
If it does, what does that say about us?
