The first thing I noticed when my eyes sprung open is that I wasn’t home. I woke up on the bottom of a bunk bed without my blanket, pillow, without anything I recognized but the clothes I was wearing. Everywhere around me girls about my age looked around with the same look on their face, confusion. No one knows how we got here. No one knows why were here. We went to sleep in our own beds and woke up here.
I got up and looked around for an exit. There was an archway to my right that I follow. Some of the girls follow me to a dark hallway that leads to a staircase. The odd thing about it was that the staircase down was cut off in the middle, like a staircase at Hogwarts that doesn’t move and just ends.
I turn around to see if there’s another way out. There are no doors, no windows, no light. I see some girls behind me do the same thing. We’re all running around looking for something. My heart starts racing as I hopelessly look around this maze.
Out of the corner of my eye I see a girl fall over the railing into the stairs that lead nowhere. I can’t see where she lands from where I stand but I can hear a loud cracking noise seconds after. The rest of us stop what we’re doing and stand there in complete shock.
I pinch myself then because none of this feels real. When nothing happens I do it a second time, then again and again until it hits me that I’m not dreaming.
