I want to research how detrimental it is to call someone stupid. For now, I’ll write everything I think is damaging and why it’s not that people are stupid, it’s just that they lack the knowledge others have.
The idea of public school is still a relatively new concept, one that is not available in every place in the world. And if it is, it might not be as advanced as other institutions, which means they don’t have the resources that other communities do. And say that one has the institution, the resources, and the ability to learn, and they still can’t grasp a subject as well as others.
This very much has to do with the fact that every student is different. Some people are visual learners, some are more hands-on, some have dyslexia, some have ADHD, some are color blind and can’t read slides with certain colors. There are different reasons why one student may not be doing as well as the other. It also has to do with outside influences such as who you hang out with and who you live with and how you’re raised…the list goes on and on.
I specifically want to research the different special needs students have available and the number of people in the world who don’t know how to read or write. I’m sure there’s more than we can imagine.
Along with this comes the idea that there are still so many people in the world who are so closed-minded. People who are so set on their traditions and beliefs that they allow themselves to be unhappy with the progress this country has gotten to.
There’s still a long way to go, but at least gay marriage is now legal everywhere in the country. At least women can vote. At least our neighborhoods are not pillaged daily. At least we have a say in who we marry.
